Benchmark Report

How to build an industry benchmark report from assessment data—percentiles, cohorts, the distribution chart that gets cited.

Home›Glossary›Benchmark Report

A benchmark report collects the same scored assessment across an industry and publishes the distributions: percentiles, cohort medians, dimension gaps. Every respondent gets their position in the pack—making it the lead magnet that markets itself.

🧮 Formula

Same instrument × N cohorts → percentile tables, dimension medians, top-decile traits.

✏️ Worked example

A leadership benchmark from 400 assessments: top-decile leaders score 2× on "feedback frequency"—the stat gets quoted in three newsletters.

🎯 When to use it

When you have 200+ completed assessments on one instrument. Publish annually; update the landing page quarterly.

⚠️ Watch out

Anonymity requires cohort minimums (n≥10) and no cross-tabs that re-identify. Percentiles need a stated reference pool or the number is folklore.

Questions practitioners ask

Small dataset—still publish?

Below ~200, publish as a directional survey, not a benchmark. The label difference is what gets you cited or scooped.

Format?

One index page, one chart per dimension, downloadable PDF; the interactive version (per-respondent percentile) is the conversion engine.
