Quick answer

Ask staff which topics, formats and timings they need before you build the professional development calendar, and rank the gaps by role and phase.

💡

About this template

In-service training fails when the calendar is built from last year's catalog. This survey asks staff which topics they need, how they learn best, when they can attend, and what would stop them applying it - then ranks the gaps by role, phase and subject so the PD plan follows evidence from the people who have to attend it. Two open prompts at the end catch what the option list missed.

❓

Frequently Asked Questions

Does a needs survey change the training plan much?
Usually it reorders it. Topic demand is rarely the surprise; format, timing and confidence gaps are.
Should we ask confidence as well as need?
Yes. Need without confidence tells you where to start; both together tell you where to start and how deep.
Can we keep it anonymous?
Yes if you drop identity fields, but grouping by role, phase and subject is what makes the analysis useful - collect segment, not name.
How many topics should we offer?
Eight to twelve, drawn from your school improvement priorities, plus one other field.
Can we reuse it each year?
Yes. Duplicate per year so last year's answers do not mix with this year's.
Can we run this survey again for the next cohort?
Yes. Copy it into your FormLM workspace, load topics, and run it before planning each term.
